November 2018 Newsletter

16th November 2018

We are grateful to all those who have joined since the AGM last June, when it was agreed to amend our Constitution to allow funds to be spent for similar purposes in the community area covered by the doctors who refer patients to the hospital. The Charity Commission has agreed to this change.

The change became necessary because the charity’s funds had risen to over £500,000, and there are no further opportunities for capital projects among the hospital buildings. The change will make no difference to the support The Friends will give to the services in the hospital.

The doctors are being asked what the actual health priorities are for the area, what they say will help us to determine how funds may be spent.

Membership of The Friends has been reorganised and a secure database of their details put in place. New Trustee Liz Lewis is busy recruiting members and so far we have 165. Anyone 18 years old or over and who is Registered at Tollerton, Millfield, Stillington, Ampleforth or Hovingham GP Surgeries can be a Member. Our membership registration form is on our website: www.fosmh.org.uk Membership is free and there are no obligations.

By becoming a member people are supporting the excellent service the hospital gives our community and will have the opportunity to help shape the actions of the Trustees.

All Members are invited to a gathering at The Galtres Centre on Saturday 5th January 2019, at 10.00am, where you will be presented with a booklet which commemorates 125 years of the Hospital. You will also be able to meet Trustees and hear an update from our Acting Chairman Peter Glossop. Refreshments will be provided.

Further information is available via our email address: [email protected].
