Friends of St Monica’s Hospital (FOSMH) have continued their support for local healthy living by playing an important part in bringing a weekly Junior Parkrun to Easingwold. It will give children the chance to run every Sunday morning at Millfield Park, with the additional benefit of providing volunteering opportunities for the wider community. Peter Berry , of FOSMH, said:
“It’s always our intention to reach every part of the community and an initiative that is aimed at young people is really to be welcomed and given our assistance. Our grant has enabled the ideas and energy of the organisers to be put into practice and we are looking forward to the first event in June.”
Hannah Molesworth from Easingwold Parkrun commented:
“In October, Michael Wallis created a Facebook group to see if we could bring a Junior Parkrun to Easingwold. It is a free, timed 2km run for children/young people aged four to fourteen years and a great way to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle. The event is only as competitive as the child participating wants it to be, so if they want to run their fastest and try for a personal best that’s great but if they choose to skip or walk around that’s great too! As keen parkrun participants and runners a group of us began fundraising, we got off to a good start with an amazingly generous donation from Friends of St Monica’s Hospital along with other donations from Hambleton District Council and Tilia homes. A huge thank you to Friends of St Monica’s for making this possible and to Mike for the idea”
