The Friends of St Monica’s Hospital (FOSMH) held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 21st May 2026, in the Galtres Centre, Easingwold, attended by its members and those of the general public, and trustees.
A fond farewell for our outgoing trustees
David Kenworthy, as outgoing Chair of Trustees, gave a summary of the Charity’s activities over the last year. This acted as his valedictory report after seven years sterling service as Chair – his sound leadership and advice will be sorely missed. The Trustees presented a card and gift vouchers to thank him for all his supportive and coordinating work for the Friends and the Hospital. Thanks too was given to Peter Berry who was also stepping down as our Communications Trustee, we shall be seeking a replacement soon.
Hospital upgrades and alterations
David explained that a planning application has been submitted to replace or double glaze the windows at the hospital on Long Street to stop the draughts, as well as some internal alterations to include a wet room. This will involve a large expenditure but is important and necessary to improve facilities for both patients and staff.
Grants
As well as funding services for hospital patients through the year, such as hairdressing and additional equipment, a total of £75,686 has been paid out over the year in grants to local organisations to support health and well-being projects. The largest amount went to support the second year of a two year trial project led by Dr John Morris for Frailty Assessments, this proved to be a worthwhile project but future funding to continue the service is yet to be secured. Support continues to be given to our natural partner EDCCA (Easingwold & District Community Care Association) including assistance to Meals on Wheels and Men’s Shed and included a joint newsletter.
Building on a successful year
It has been a productive year but we will not be resting on our laurels – the new Chair, Jane Wintermeyer, and Vice Chair, Angie Bussey, will be working hard with the rest of the team of Trustees to promote and support both the hospital and the local community with their health and well-being.
